How to Create a Vision Board for your Financial Goals

What is a Vision board?

It turns out writing your goals down in a visual format can actually help you achieve them. According to research studies, vision boards increase your motivation, confidence, and even physical performance. This has even been proven with athletes at the highest levels, and they found that visualization was equivalent to physical practice. This goes to show how powerful our thoughts are and how they affect our actions.

How does it work? For example, if you would like to be more financially stable you would put pictures and words of financial goals that you are working towards such as financial freedom, success, and a picture of a house, etc. A vision board should relate to your life direction and where you would like to see yourself in a few years’ time.

Benefits of a Vision Board

A vision board has multiple benefits because it creates a visual and emotional connection in your mind, increasing your motivation to achieve your goal. The vision you have in your mind is being transformed into pictures and words that are of meaning to you and through the process of creating the vision board, you are forced to think about the future and what you want to achieve in your life.

  1. A vision board creates a visual and emotional connection that improves your motivation

  2. The vision you have in your mind is being transformed into pictures and words

  3. You are forced to think about the future and what you want to achieve in your life.

Go in the direction of those things that pull you and don’t be scared to modify your goals over time. It is natural that your goals will change but the overall direction should stay relatively similar.

How do I make it for my Financial Goals?

In reality, most of our goals are connected to our finances. Your dream house, lifestyle, or vacation will require you to have enough money to be able to buy it or do it. A financial vision board can either be partially or entirely separate from a vision board about your overall goals. However, unlike the broad vision board, this one will focus on money and your finances. The money vision board can touch on a wide range of topics, whether it's saving money, getting out of debt, or increasing your income, your financial goals can be included in this vision board.

So begin by writing down your financial goals with a specific time frame on when to achieve them. This will act as the foundation of your vision board. The clearer the goals are the more effective the vision board will be. Why is it important to have them written down as clear as possible? This very clear description of your goal will make it easier to find a visual representation of what you’re working to achieve. The goal must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.

For Example:

My goal is to “save PHP 100,000 for emergencies by Dec 31, 2021.” The goal is specific, it can be measured, it is realistic, and it has a time frame.

You should also add phrases and affirmations that align with your goals to make it a well-rounded vision board

How do I keep the vision board relevant in my daily life?

Review it as often as possible and try and visualize yourself in the images and words that you placed on the board. Visualize and imagine yourself having accomplished and/or acquired the things on your vision board. If you can see yourself successful, you will do the work necessary to actually achieve it.
